In Conclusion...

          Today marked the last day of the Spring semester on the academic calendar, in addition to the overall conclusion of this course, post final exam. The realm of popular culture is without a doubt, a whole world of its own. There is simply so much to look into and examine within our own culture today, sometimes it very well feels overwhelming to be bombarded with the multitude of colourful and influential customs and events we encounter each and every day, and even yesterday. Prior to taking this course, the idea of this "popular culture" may not have seemed to me much more than a fluffed and powered version of a currents events course. Although, by all means, this was not a class discussion like you may find in an AP government class: popular culture is far more engaging and lively. This is the type of course one would need to enrol in themselves, as a review or a course description don't quite spew enough credit for what learning about popular culture actually entails.

          Over the course of this semester, one of my personal favourite topics we discussed was way at the beginning with the concept of social currency. Even today, I still find social currency to be a head scratcher, such as to say, "Oh?! Is that what it's called?" Sure enough, it all makes sense. Learning about these terms and factors of our culture around us, really does broaden the value of the world and everything it has to show us. At the end of the day, there really is a great deal of information to learn even if it may appear obvious within our day to day lives. However, the point is, there is so much more going on in popular culture than simply what is presented to us in gossip or weekly celebrity magazines. Some aspects of popular culture are a bit dry, but once you start exploring, things will become more interesting than what you though they could ever be. = )
